Analgesics

Most substances used for analgesics are easily detectable in the UV range due to their aromatic structure. As some of them are uncharged, micellar techniques are necessary. Additionally the limited solubility of some analgesics leads to the implementation of organic modifier like methanol or DMSO into the elctrolyte standard solution. The fine-tuning of the separation is done due tot he chosen temperature.

Standard solution

• Separation: MEKC
• Electrolyte: Borate-SDS
• Capillary: fused silica, 50 µm ID, bubble cell, 64,5 cm in total
• Detection: direct UV, 195 nm
• Description: The standard solution contains 5 ppm acetaminophen, 14 ppm piroxicam, 5 ppm meloxicam, 5 acetylsalicylic acid, 15 ppm naproxen, 15 ppm antipyrine, 5 ppm ibuprofen, 10 ppm diclofenac, 9 ppm metamizole and 13 ppm methylsalicylate

Ibuprofen in fever juice for children

• Separation: MEKC
• Electrolyte: Borate-SDS
• Capillary: fused silica, 50 µm ID, bubble cell, 64 cm in total
• Detection: direct UV, 195 nm
• Description: The juice was diluted with pure water and injected directely without further sample pretreatment.

Ibuprofen in film coated tablet

• Detection: direct UV, 195 nm
• Description: The tablet was thoroughly powdered, then suspended in water, homogenized and diluted. Before the injection a filtration took place.

Antipyrine (Phenazone) in inflammation inhibitors

• Description: Besides the analgesic effect antipyrine is also used as spasmolity agent. The tablet was dissolved in pure water and diluted before injection.

Methylsalicylate in a roll-on-stick

• Detection: direct UV, 195 nm
• Description: Methylsalicylate is prescribed exclusively for external use in ointment and creams for the treatment of muscle disease and nerve inflammation. The application in the roll-on stick leads to an additional light massaging effect. The highly viscous solution in the stick was diluted with pure water.
